David D. Canton, DVM, Diplomate American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists
Following graduation from University of California, Davis in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Physiology, Dr. Canton remained at UC Davis, attending veterinary school from 1981 through 1985.
After earning a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from UC Davis in 1985, Dr. Canton (a true California lad) traveled to the east coast where he completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in Philadelphia.
Between 1986 and 1989, Dr. Canton trained as a resident in veterinary ophthalmology at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and was board certified by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO). Dr. Canton remained on the ophthalmology faculty at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine from 1989 to 1990.
In 1990, Dr. Canton established Animal Ophthalmology Services in Vacaville CA, where he currently practices as chief ophthalmologist.
During the 25 years he has practiced as chief clinical ophthalmologist at Animal Ophthalmology Services in Vacaville, CA, Dr. Canton has also served as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, providing lectures and teaching laboratories to veterinary students. During this period he has also helped train many veterinary students and veterinarians completing their post-graduate training (residency) in veterinary ophthalmology.
Professional specialty interests of Dr. Canton include: cataract removal surgery with replacement intraocular lens implantation, and corneal grafting procedures for complicated corneal diseases.
Dr. Canton and his wife (also a veterinarian) enjoy their small farm providing a haven for a variety of animals including horses, sheep, goats, and llamas.
